Cereal Chocolate Bars

Rice Krispies! Golden Grahams! Cinnamon Toast Crunch! Reese’s Puffs!!! Add a little crunch to your next cocoa creation with this recipe for Cereal Chocolate Bars.

Ingredients

To make cereal chocolate bars, you’ll need… CHOCOLATE! I love these Snaps for easy chocolate treats. And I use these Callets when I’m wanting something a little more gourmet! Just be aware – the Callets do require tempering to properly set up in a chocolate mold. Learn more about tempering chocolate here.

Next, choose a fun food to mix into your cereal chocolate bars. I like the addition of a crunchy texture to the chocolate bar, so cereal was the perfect mix-in for me! I also fell in love with freeze dried fruit! This added a tart component and it colored the chocolate beautifully.

Last, think about toppings! More cereal! Sprinkles! Small candies! Etc. This is the finishing touch and an opportunity to set your chocolate bars apart from something you could find at a store.

Tools

To make your chocolate bars, you’ll start by picking a mold. We have a large selection of molds for every party, holiday, and celebration. We also have a variety of standard molds that work for any occasion. Any mold will work, but I prefer something that is shallow! I also like it to be at least 1.5″ in width or length, which will allow enough space for the cereal to be place on top.

I loved using this or this rectangle for basic chocolate bars. This square is fun, too, for a smaller treat. I love this cup, but try not to fill it to the top, so your chocolate isn’t too thick. And don’t forget chocolate lollipops! Try this smaller or bigger mold for a fun option.

Now, in order to make your cereal chocolate bars, you’ll need to melt your chocolate! We prefer to do this in a plastic or silicone bowl! The chocolate melts gently and clean up is easy!

Last, you’ll need a silicone spatula and a long icing scraper!

Method

Okay! We have our ingredients. And our tools. Now, let’s get cooking!!!

Start by melting 2 cups of chocolate in your bowl. You’ll place the bowl in the microwave for 1 minute. Remove and stir. Now, microwave for 30 seconds. Stir. And repeat until the chocolate is smooth and melted.

Now, measure 1 cup of the ingredient you’ll add into your chocolate. Place that into a ziploc bag and roll over it with a rolling pin, making crumbs. Now, add the crumbs into your melted chocolate.

If the chocolate feels too thick, place it back in the microwave for 10 seconds or until smooth.

Now, pour your chocolate into your molds. You can pour from the bowl or you can use a food disher to keep things more tidy. Either way, fill every cavity on your mold.

After it’s filled, tap your mold against the counter a few times to remove and bubbles and fill all the corners. If your chocolate has spilled out of the cavity, use your large icing spatula to scrape the excess chocolate back into your bowl.

Now, add your toppings! Be sure the topping touches the surface of the chocolate. If it’s not touching, it won’t stay put! I like to press them gently to ensure they are in place.

Once your cereal chocolate bars are looking good, you will wait for the chocolate to set. This takes about 15 minutes at room temp. Or 5-10 minutes in the fridge/freezer. Once the chocolate is set, you can pop your chocolates out of the mold! Voila! So simple.

Packaging

Finish your treats with a little paper and twine for fun gift. Or package them up in a cellophane bag or candy box! Tie on a name tag and you have a place card.

These cereal chocolate bars are the perfect gift/treat/snack/activity for all ages and genders and species. You’ll love them!
