Candied Blood Orange

Candied Blood Oranges

Candied blood oranges make the perfect garnish for any creamy dessert or a savory meal. They are pleasing to the eyes, nose, and especially your mouth. This 5-ingredient recipe is simple and easy.

What you’ll need

1 cup water

1 cup sugar

1 blood orange (thinly sliced)

1/2 cup melted chocolate (milk or dark depending on your preference)

Dash of sea salt

In a large skillet, mix water and sugar and place over high heat. Bring to a boil. Continue mixing until the sugar dissolves completely. Add the slices of the blood oranges to the skillet. Make sure the oranges are in a single layer. Reduce the heat to medium-low, or until the sugar water mixture is a slight simmer. Keep the oranges on the skillet until the pith (white part) of the orange turns translucent. Turn the orange slices every once in a while to ensure both sides become coated. This process takes about 40 minutes.

Once finished, remove from heat and allow them to sit overnight.

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees and bake the orange slices for 2.5-3 hours. Let them cool on a wire rack before dipping them. Once cooled, melt your chocolate, dip half the orange, and sprinkle a dash of sea salt onto the melted chocolate.

Let the chocolate cool and enjoy!
