Homemade chocolates, truffles, and treats make the best edible gifts or individual desserts. This homemade peanut butter cup recipe walks you through the step-by-step process of filling your chocolate mold with any filling, especially everyone’s favorite, peanut butter!

What you’ll need

1 chocolate mold

2 cups of milk or dark chocolate

1/2 cup peanut butter

2/3 cup powder sugar

1 tablespoon butter (softened)

Combine sugar, peanut butter, and butter in a mixing bowl and mix with an electric mixer using a paddle attachment. Beat until it is well combined and set aside.

Pour the chocolate into a microwave safe bowl and melt the chocolate on half-power in one minute intervals. Stir after each interval. Once the chocolate is melted pour some into each mold until they are almost full. For instructions on how to fill your chocolate mold, follow our step-by-steps instructions below, or watch our how-to 2-minute video.

Swirl the chocolate around until all of the sides of each mold is coated. Let the chocolate sit in the molds for a couple minutes to let the chocolate set up. This will determine how thick the sides of your peanut butter cups will be. Tip the chocolate mold to the side to remove the excess chocolate. Pour the chocolate back into the bowl.

Next, hold the mold upside down over a cookie sheet and swirl the mold in a circular motion to remove the excess chocolate.

To create a smooth finish, use a bench scraper and scrape off the top of the chocolate mold. Refrigerate the mold until the chocolate has completely hardened; this usually takes 5-10 minutes. Once the shells have hardened, place a tablespoon size of the peanut butter mixture, or whatever filling you are using, and place it in the middle of each mold. Flatten the peanut butter in each mold to even the tops.

Gygi Pro Tip: Run your finger along the edge of each mold to clean any spillovers, this helps the chocolate adhere better to the base.

Pour more chocolate over each mold until they are completely filled. Tap the molds onto a flat surface a couple times to remove any air bubbles that may have formed. Use a bench scraper again to create smooth tops.
